Chris the Photographer

John loaned Chris the camera for the program (as he's done in the past) and he's doing a great job:

You know to go to the UK 2009 blog for more details of what we're doing. Hope everything's OK at home. The numbers seem to work--the worst problem we're having with phones right now is remembering where we put them in the first place, not hearing their rings, and not being able to get them out of backpacks, pockets, etc., in time to answer them. Also, we haven't decoded how to read text messages or hear voicemail. John keeps saying "we've got to figure out the phones" but what he means is you've got to figure out the phones, and I'm too busy doing pictures. And cooking, etc. It was pretty tense there for a few days with John trying to finish his grades, but now we seem to be OK. It's a lot of fun.

Psych Website

I got my Dreamweaver upgrade, and Rob has been teaching me how to modify my website. Mostly I've been inserting links and putting pictures of flowers on it (which doesn't intuitively have a lot to do with psychotherapy, but oh well). It's a work in progress. Check it out and give me feedback.

Skype

If your monitor doesn't have a built-in camera, you can buy a webcam for about $35. It takes organization to make sure you're both signed in to talk at the same time, but it's free, and the most fun thing (for me) is how it makes me feel like I'm living in Isaac Asimov days. Or the Jetsons. Amy and I talk for fun, with Jamison hovering in the background, and Betsy and I do business meetings on it, since we can call up files and email etc. at the same time. Google it. Obey your mother.

Amy noticed...

...that I haven't been posting much lately. Part of that is because I've been actually working, but part of it is also that I've started two new blogs and begun working on my psych website. You're invited to check them out:

Beowulf to Virginia Woolf: Walking the UK for past, present, and future students;

Claire R. Wallace, PhD, Preternatural Psychologist relating to my (ahem) other career, and

Karla Bennion, PhD., Psychotherapy and Evaluation, my professional website, which also contains a blog.

You are welcome to leave comments and suggestions on any of them.

Skype

One other techie thing--you gotta get Skype. When Betsy was here the other day we downloaded it to my new computer and then tried it out with computers in different rooms. Tonight we talked to Amy in Chicago for a long time using Skype. It was almost hard to talk, the visual aspect was so distracting, as we grinned at each other's chin or collarbone (because the webcams are just above the screen). But it was easy and free! I have it loaded on my ASUS mini so we'll be able to make free video calls from England in the spring. It's way fun.
